Hull’s long-running arts extravaganza, Freedom Festival, starts this weekend with more thought-provoking and entertaining performances for everyone to enjoy.
Named after the city’s association with William Wilberforce and the end of the slave trade, the festival showcases the best art and culture from all over the world, featuring a variety of performances and spectacular large-scale events.

When Is Freedom Festival Taking Place?
Freedom Festival takes place across the city from 26 August to 4 September 2022, with events held at multiple venues at different times throughout.
Who Is Performing at This Year’s Festival?
Over 350 individual performers, artists, musicians, and creatives will perform across the festival.
This year’s line-up includes artists from around the world such as Gravity and Other Myths (Australia), Cie L’Homme Debout (France), and a collaborative performance with Adrian Utley (Portishead) & Will Gregory (Goldfrapp).
There is also plenty of local talent to watch, with performances from gig-theatre group Middle Child, post-punk rockers LIFE, and many more.

How Do I Get Tickets?
You can book tickets for all ticketed events through the Freedom Festival website. Ticket prices vary for each event and booking in advance is advised.

Where is Freedom Festival Taking Place?
The festival will transform multiple public spaces around the city centre into bespoke performance areas. There are also some events that take place in venues such as Hull New Theatre, Ferens Art Gallery, Hull Truck Theatre and Stage@TheDock.
How Can I Get to Freedom Festival?
You can travel to Hull City Centre using any local taxi company. The closest taxi ranks can be found at Princes Dock Street, Market Place, Alfred Gelder Street, Lowgate and Carr Lane.
Buses run from Paragon Interchange up until midnight from Monday – Saturday. You can access all bus times ahead of your visit using the East Yorkshire Buses and Stagecoach websites.
If travelling by train, you can book your journey in advance with Hull Trains.
